CD36 FISH Probe

The CD36 FISH probe is designed to hybridize to the CD36 gene and is primarily used for detecting amplifications and deletions associated with the gene. This probe is FISH confirmed on normal peripheral blood metaphase spreads and interphase nuclei. The probe can be labeled in one of five colors. Each probe is sold in a 20 test kit (approximately 20 slides - 22x22 mm area) and includes hybridization buffer. Please note that due to design optimizations, prices are subject to change.

Gene Summary

The protein encoded by this gene is the fourth major glycoprotein of the platelet surface and serves as a receptor for thrombospondin in platelets and various cell lines. Since thrombospondins are widely distributed proteins involved in a variety of adhesive processes, this protein may have important functions as a cell adhesion molecule. It binds to collagen, thrombospondin, anionic phospholipids and oxidized LDL. It directly mediates cytoadherence of Plasmodium falciparum parasitized erythrocytes and it binds long chain fatty acids and may function in the transport and/or as a regulator of fatty acid transport. Mutations in this gene cause platelet glycoprotein deficiency. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Feb 2014]

Method for the Prognosis of Multiple Myeloma

Although survival rates have improved significantly in the past decade, multiple myeloma is still considered largely incurable. This patent aims to identify genetic biomarkers specific to MM that could serve as potential prognostic indicators. The authors propose using gene expression values of four CD markers - CD24, CD27, CD36 and CD302 – to predict clinical outcome in MM. The team suggests Empire Genomics’ CD36 and CD302 FISH probes for detection of these genes.
